Makame - Indema Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs)



MAKAME -INDEMA
"The Largest WMA in Tanzania with potential business opportunities" Size: 5372 sq.km  Region / District: Kiteto District

The WMA is found in Kiteto District, Bordered and/or completely surrounded by hunting blocks.


These blocks are Masai Open Area (West), Irkushbor and Masai Open Area (East) on the North, Mkungunero Open Area and Masai Open Area (South) in West and Talamai Open Area in the South east.

Significance
Comprises dominant vegetation type of open woodlands and a mixture of shrubland which harbor variety of species like Elephant, Lion, Bufallo, Giraffe, Leopard, Oryx, Lesser Kudu, Eland, Gerenuk, Klipspringer, Hartebeest, Bushbuck, Zebra, Waterbuck, Wildebeest, Reedbuck, Hyaena, Thomson Gazelle and Grants Gazelle and Warthog, Impala, Dik-dik and Wild pig.
Accessibility
The WMA is served by close airstrips of Irkushbor, Mbogo, and Talamai Open Areas.

Iluma Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs)

ILUMA Size 511 square kilometers Region / District: Kilombero and Ulanga districts, Morogoro Region Iluma is located in Kilombero and Ulanga districts, Morogoro Region in the Eastern part of Tazania. Iluma is part of Selous ecosystem and most importantly part of Kilombero Valley Ramsar Site. The area borders Selous Game Reserve to the East. Most of the district area lies along the Kilombero river valley and part of it in the Rufiji Basin and Selous Game Reserve which extends to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, covered by Miombo woodlands that rise to about 1700 meters above sea level. KIMBANDA The area is part of the Selous-Niassa Wildlife Corridor. It is rich in miombo woodlands and abundant wildlife reserve. The Selous - Niassa Miombo woodland ecosystem as a whole is the largest trans-boundary natural dry forest ecosystem in Africa covering 150,000 km2 and extends across southern Tanzania into neighbouring Mozambique. The wide variety of wildlife habitats - forests, wooded grasslands, open savannahs, granite inselbergs, seasonal and permanent wetlands and rivers - account for globally significant biodiversity.
